Australians churn through more than 118k tonnes of plastic drink bottles every year. That’s around 373 million plastic water bottles for a population of only 25 million.
To help change this, use reusable bags, ditch single-use water bottles and straws and avoid products made from or packaged in plastic whenever possible. If you already own plastic products, don’t chuck them out: reuse them!
- Be water wise.
To produce a single litre plastic bottle, you need 3 litres of water and one litre of oil. All for a product designed to consume and throw away after one use. So skip the bottled water.
Small changes make a big impact. For example, closing the tab when you wash your face or brush your teeth can save tonnes of water yearly. You can also start taking shorter showers, fixing your leaky toilets and taps, and choosing low-flow and low-water appliance options.
- Be kind to yourself.
